Tools for Active Shooter Response Training via Police Mag

When it comes to preparing officers for high-stress, rapidly evolving incidents, realistic training matters.

A special thank you to Wayne Parham and the team at POLICE Magazine for highlighting modern active shooter response training technologies, and to Mike Willis, National Training & Program Director for the U.S. Deputy Sheriffs' Association (USDSA), for demonstrating how these tools are used during training.

The video showcases several Laser Ammo training systems that help create realistic, repeatable, and safe training environments without the expense and limitations of live-fire exercises.

Here's a quick look at the technology featured.

ATLP – Advanced Training Laser Pistol (Non-Recoil)

The ATLP is a dedicated training handgun designed specifically for force-on-force and tactical instruction. It provides realistic handling and weight while eliminating the need for live ammunition, making it ideal for repetitive and safe scenario-based training.

gunSHOT BOX™

The gunSHOT BOX™ adds another layer of realism by producing synchronized gunshot sounds and muzzle flash effects. This challenges officers to locate threats, identify the direction of gunfire, and make decisions under realistic stress.

i-MTTS Interactive Targets

The Interactive Multi-Target Training System (i-MTTS) provides instant feedback using modulated electronic targets. Trainers can create engaging drills that improve accuracy, target transitions, movement, and decision-making.

CQB in a Box

CQB in a Box is a portable close-quarters battle training system that helps instructors build realistic room-clearing and tactical movement exercises almost anywhere. It allows agencies to quickly set up repeatable scenarios for individual officers or teams.

Training That Builds Confidence

No single tool replaces quality instruction, but combining realistic firearms, interactive targets, sound effects, and scenario-based exercises creates a training environment that better prepares officers for the challenges they may face in the field.

Watch the video below to see these systems in action during a USDSA active shooter response training event.
